bim bom is a space for making. primarily centering development of
movement based performance
solo practice
movement + sound collaboration
wip showings
work that might never be shown
strategies for community abundance
etcetera.

our wish is that bim bom is an affordable, dependable place for artists to create. we want to support you as best as we can in the tender, messy phases of your process that often go underfunded / self funded / or not funded at all.

rates

  • this sliding scale is a work in progress. too often, space rentals have an hourly rate that is higher than what an artist is paid for their work on an hourly basis. our model is formed in recognition that space use is not a luxury, but a necessity when it comes to developing work and maintaining a practice.

we trust artists to self-select a rate that is true for them and their situation, and understand that their rate needs may shift from week to week.

  • $5 - $10 / hour

this end of the scale is for those who are unable to meet their basic needs and have no expendable income or funding. we also encourage those who self-identify as BIPOC / ALAANA / First Nations / Indigenous to feel welcome renting space at this rate, regardless of financial situation.

  • $10 - $15 / hour

this portion of the scale is for those who are able to meet their basic needs, and have some expendable income or funding. we encourage all individual artists to feel welcome renting space at this rate, regardless of financial situation.

  • $15 - $20 / hour

this portion of the scale is for those who are able to meet their basic needs and have ample expendable income or funding. we also encourage those who are part of non-profit or for-profit groups to rent at this rate.

  • $20 - $40 / hour

for public showings or gatherings of more than 15 people we ask that folks pay at this end of the scale. in addition to the length of the event, there will be an additional hour’s fee (30 minutes prior and after) for setting and resetting the space. if this event rate impedes you from paying artists participating in your showing or fulfilling a basic need, let us know and we’ll happily negotiate.

the space

  • 1000 sq. ft. open space
    hardwood floors
three large windows for natural light

    two skylights
    single gender-neutral restroom
    small kitchenette
two points of entry / egress
    central AC
    radiators for heat

  • depends on what you're up to!

for rehearsals + classes where everyone is moving around the room, 15 is comfortable maximum. anything more than that might feel squished.

for events where people are sitting in chairs / at tables, 35-45 seems to be a comfortable maximum.

for WIPs or performances with audience take into consideration how much space performers will need and whether audience will be seated or standing.
